Evocative of the western coast with the persistent Atlantic winds. This series captures the tenacious Hawthorn tree as it stands fast against the odds and the elements.

Each piece is created in the Glenn Gibson Sculpture Studio in Galway, Ireland. This piece represents the tenacious hawthorn tree that can be seen strewn along the windy and rugged coast of Connemara. The Hawthorn holds a special repute in the myths and legends of ancient Celtic Folklore. For many, it is believed to be the home of the faeries, and there is nary a soul who would disturb a Faerie Tree in Ireland. Through your travels in Connemara, you may see a freshly ploughed field and wonder why there is a lone knotted tree in the middle of the furrows. You might even wonder why the farmer wouldn’t just remove it! The farmer knows that this is the faerie’s home and does not want to run the risk of enduring the wrath of the Faerie Queen!

his tree was hand made in Ireland by Glenn Gibson Sculpture Studios. Each piece, just like a real hawthorn tree is unique. Each tree in the series is similar and no two are the same, each depicting the windswept tree persistently holding on in spite of the elements. (No Faeries were upset nor harmed in the making of these sculptures)
